Hope everyone of y’all had a great weekend!
I can’t believe I haven’t run a 5k all year! I normally run 5k’s several times throughout the year. Since I started training the last 5 weeks, I wanted to see where my speed was at. This past weekend I ran the Rahr n Sons Annual Oktoberfest 5k. My husband’s business (Simply Fit Meals) was one of the sponsors and it was the second year we were a part of it.
I set a goal for myself and although I didn’t hit the goal, I’m pretty proud of myself. I haven’t run that fast since I used to compete and was about 15 pounds lighter lol. I did the 5k in 26:59 (8:42 average pace). My goal was 26:10 but I took off a little too fast in the beginning that my pace kept getting slower by 30-40 sec each mile. The competitive side of me was yelling at myself saying I need to get my training together and take it more serious. Every once in a while I have those days where I snooze and skip a workout so NO MORE of that lol. To be honest though, I really am just doing this half for fun but I don’t want to skip any workouts because I want to come in to that race with some stamina haha. I really don’t want to stop.
To have a successful run, I made sure and got plenty of sleep by packing my bag the night before. From my Amino Energy (which is currently on sale) to my breakfast to my running clothes. The morning of I ate oatmeal and mixed my protein powder in it (so good with bananas too!!!).
If you’ve been wanting to run a 5k and don’t know how, I highly recommend checking out from couch to 5k programs. So if you’re not a runner, this is great for you to learn and get better. I saw one on this site where you can train in 9 weeks. Why not you? Why not now? Step out of your comfort zone and try something new and rewarding. Rewarding because maybe you can drop a few pounds if you’re wanting/needing that and because running releases endorphins which = HAPPINESS 🙂 🙂
HAVE A GREAT WEEK!
