Fear a distressing emotion aroused by impending danger, evil, pain, etc., whether the threat is real or imagined; the feeling or condition of being afraid.
There have been times where I have been afraid when it came to competing or any big event in my life. The thing is … I don’t even know what I truly was scared of. I guess when you do so well at things you all of a sudden feel more pressure. It ends up being a little bit of fear, nervousness and anxiety. One thing I have learned over the year is that pressure is what makes us. When you live in fear its hard to enjoy life. Also when you live in fear it takes over your life just like stress does. Something that I had to realize, is not everything will be perfect in life and the times that it doesn’t seem so perfect is when you have to keep on keeping on the most. This is when your faith is being tested. This is when fear evolves. This is when you have to be the strongest. This is when you have to believe in yourself the most.
Its almost time for your show and you know at the bottom of your heart your not ready what do you do? Your so stressed out and all you can focus on is everything negative that could possibly happen. You start thinking about all the things you wish you didn’t do or wish you did.
I think this goes through a lot of our heads before showtime and its totally normal. Here are some tips that gets me back in the zone when I am in the fear zone.
Yoga- Yoga lets you focus on the present moment. It also lets you be aware of your thoughts. That is really important because fear is such a powerful emotion and can make you sometimes feel like your losing your mind.
Inspirational movies- I love watching movies that inspire me because it helps me realize that I can do anything I set my mind too even when I am fealing the weakest! Some of my favorites “Pursuit of Happiness”, “Pumping Iron”, “Forest Gump’ and the list goes on. After I watch these kind of movies I get pumped! lol
Walking- Sometimes when I get away I start thinking about where I am at. I start thinking about how the ” race ain’t ova”. I talk myself out of feeling the fear and tell myself everywork out counts until its over. So until its over I need to give it 100%. I do this because of experience. Within a week into one of my past shows my body changed dramatically. The quote ” Train your mind, and your body will follow” came into place and my body followed! Plus you burn calories doing this!
Music- I listen to a lot of motivational music. “Winner” is by far one of my favorites! Music actually has a big impact on your attitude.
YouTube- There are thousands of motivational videos based on fear. I can’t get enough!
The list goes on~
Visualizing- I cannot stress this enough. You have to make this an obsession where when you wake up you visualize it, you go to bed you visualize it. I also have a vision board that I put on the wall where I see it everyday. I look at it and visualize everything that I want.
Sauna- I love sitting in the sauna because its the time I get to reflect. When I do this it gets me back in the zone!
Whether your competing or getting ready for a big event it’s important to stay in the zone. Even the most successful people easily fall out of it but its important to focus on the positive and everything you have accomplished that has lead you to where you are. Remember when I mentioned “Tunnel vision towards your mission” in my blog “Haters = motivators”? Apply this to your goals!
