We feel better when we look pretty! We feel confident, happy, and powerful. I work in the beauty industry where beauty is power! I mean I sure wouldn’t get my makeup done by someone that resembled a clown and wouldn’t get my “hurrr” did by someone with “fried” hair. As a lash stylist, I feel it is important to look good at all times. Well really any job I have ever had it was important to always be made up. When I worked retail I always had to wear the cute trendy clothes and wear makeup. When I was a Hooters girl 3 of the 11 steps to the uniform was “Hair, Makeup, and Smile”. Back when I worked those jobs, I didn’t work out as much so I had more time to get ready. I would straighten my hair and take my time on my makeup and always feel glamorous when I went to work. The only thing that I wasn’t that proud of was my body. The reason for that was because my diet was horrible and I wasn’t consistent with my workouts. So the more I read fitness magazines the more it motivated me to start training my body.As I started working out more I had a routine where I worked out early in the morning, showered at the gym and got glammed up there before heading to work. So what am I complaining about? Well, I started competing in fitness competitions. Most of the days I am at the gym twice a day. Because of that I never want to straighten my hair or even waste my makeup because I sweat it off and gain some kinky curls! So I get in shape to feel good about my body but then I can’t even dress up to flaunt it?. Seashel, we’ve got a problem.
About a year ago I was doing lashes on one of my really great girlfriends Lisa Jauregui. (She is actually doing makeup on my big wedding day). Now let me tell you about Lisa. Lisa is one of those girls that always looks put together even if she is sweating in the gym. Not only is she beautiful, she has great taste in clothing, is a very classy lady, and the sweetest girl I have ever met! Since Austin is so casual I would wear gym clothes to work ( of course cute ones atleast), wear my hair in a ponytail, and sometimes show up to work without any makeup on. That is a big fat no no in the beauty bizz! I was telling her how I felt that over the years of competing I had let myself go. I asked her how she does it? She was competing for her first NPC bikini competition, working at Keye news, Bridal makeup on weekends, and still managed time to get dolled up. “Girl, you gotta make time!” so Lisa said.I was quite shocked to hear that. Everyday I get atleast 3 people tell me some excuse that they don’t have time to cook, workout, diet,etc..and sometimes I get tired of hearing it. “Excuses” I say ” You’ve got to make time”. From then on I told myself I need to get it together. If it means waking up 15 minutes earlier to make sure I get my makeup on or pick out an outfit then so be it.
I decided I needed to stop making excuses, stop being lazy and start looking cute to work! I started thinking like the female version of Jay-z ” I am not a businesswoman. I am a business, woman!” This will help me and my business! Not only that, but feel great about myself all the time. Because ladies when we look good we feel real good! Now if you will excuse me I gotta go get my lashes fluffed!;)
